Winfield Scott Frazeur IV

May 10, 1941 — April 1, 2025

Winfield Scott Frazeur IV passed from this world on April 1, 2025 into the arms of his Lord and Savior. No longer is he in pain or suffering but rejoicing in his new heavenly home.

Born on May 10, 1941 to Winfield S. Frazeur III and Eleanor Rice. They resided in Detroit, Michigan. After Winfield’s parents divorced, Eleanor moved with her sons to Long Beach, California then later on to Alameda, California where Winfield grew up. He attended Haight Elementary School and then graduated in 1960 from Alameda High School.

Immediately after graduation he entered the United States Navy. His Navy career spanned over 21 years. Winfield reached the rank of Chief Petty officer; one of his proudest accomplishments. He loved the Navy and never tired of greeting other military members. He was stationed in Rota, Spain, San Diego, California, Yokosuka, Japan and Alameda, California. He served in various Navy Ready Reserve Units in California, South Dakota and Oregon. His Navy career began on June 13, 1960 and ended on December 31, 1983. He served as an aerial photographer during his Navy career. Some of the more interesting career highlights included shooting photos of Russian ships entering the Straits of Gibraltar carrying missiles to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis starting in October 1960. He was invited to photograph President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in Portland during his re-election bid for U.S. President in 2005.

After separating from the Navy, he began work for the U.S. Geological survey. He worked in quality control of photography coming in from space. While working here he attended South Dakota State full-time earning his degree in Geography.

After moving to Grants Pass in the 1980s he became a gentleman farmer raising ducks, geese and swans on property located in rural Josephine County.

His love of photography never stopped. He was also interested in working on his computer, traveling the country in his RV, and traveling internationally re-visiting former Navy bases he had been stationed at. During his travels he was able to also renew many friendships with former Navy aerial photo mates.

Winfield is survived by the love of his life, Clare. Also surviving is his daughter Judith Velasquez of Hayward, California; sons Robert Frazeur and Scotti Frazeur both of Salem, Oregon; stepsons Christian (Laura) Jones of La Center, Washington and Anthony (DeeDee) Jones of Rocklin, California; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Donna) Frazeur of Grass Valley, California; and two beloved nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or Rogue Valley Human Society, Grants Pass.
