Wilma Rea Munyon was born on January 20, 1934 in Ashland, Oregon and passed away of natural causes on April 27, 2020 in her Grants Pass, Oregon home.
As a young woman growing up in Glendale, Oregon, Wilma had been a member of Job’s Daughter’s. In 1957 she married Chalton Munyon Jr. and they made their home in Glendale for 58 years. There, they raised their four sons, Richard, Bobby, Kenneth and Glen.
Wilma was retired from the Glendale, Oregon Grade School where she worked as a Teacher’s Aide from 1973 to 1998. She was a past president of the Glendale School District Union and had served as a member of the Glendale School Board. During her son’s school years, she was a strong supporter and active participant of the Glendale Booster Club. She had also served as a member of the Glendale City Planning Committee.
As a proud, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Wilma enjoyed the outdoors. She would never pass up the opportunity to spend time camping with her family in the woods or at the Oregon Coast. Her world centered around family and she treasured their family gatherings. She was an amazing cook and baker and especially loved to bake treats for her boys.
Another passion of Wilma’s was sports, especially live games. She never missed any of her son’s games and attended most of her grandkids games as well. She looked forward to college football season so that she could attend the Oregon Duck home games in Eugene but was also content to watch her favorite NFL team, The Washington Redskins, on T.V.
Wilma had an adventurous heart and loved the exploration aspect of travel. As an active member of the Grants Pass YMCA for the past 5 years, she had the benefit of participating in many of the club’s extra-curricular events. Wilma had made many new friends through the YMCA and together, they had fun adventures both regionally and internationally.
Wilma’s warm, positive, generous and unassuming personality endured her to the hearts of everyone she met. She was everybody’s Mom, Sister, Gramma, Aunt and Friend. And for her 4 daughter-in-law’s, she was the “Mom” in-law that every bride wished they had.
Wilma is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Modine Wooldridge and Kenneth Brown, by her husband, Chalton Munyon Jr., and her son, Glen Munyon.
She is survived by her sons, Richard, Bob, and Kenny, her sister, Mary, her grandsons, Brett, Miles, Chasen and Colten Munyon, and her great granddaughters, Addison, Ayla and Kinsley Munyon.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the Pioneer Cemetery in Canyonville, Oregon.
Services will be open to family and close friends, however, unfortunately social distancing must be respected. There will not be a reception afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Grants Pass Oregon YMCA, or one of Wilma’s favorite charities, St. Judd Children’s Hospital or the Salvation Army.
