Wayne Saffer, age 83 died in his hometown Cave Junction.
Wayne has lived in Cave Junction since 1950 moving from Jay, Okla. He was born Garland Wayne Saffer March 6, 1932 in Wellston, Okla. to William and Laura Saffer. He was welcomed by six sisters and two brothers. Number nine of a final count of 11 children. About two years after moving to Cave Junction he met the love of his life, Phyllis Dick. They were married in December of 1952 at the Community Bible Church and were married 62+years at the time of his Home going. Wayne was very active in sports in high school and even though the family moved a lot he lettered in four sports, two in one school and two in another. Family was his main love besides Jesus Christ whom he received as his Savior while serving in Korea, 1953-1955.
Besides his wife, he leaves behind three children, Gerry and Loretta Saffer Bjornstad, Wes and Valerie Saffer Poe and son David Saffer. Also 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with number 15 due in July. Three of his eight sisters are still living: Azzlee McCarter of Roseburg, Dolores Gallagher of Grants Pass, and Marie Nutter of Monmouth, Oregon.
He was a member of Community Bible Church.
A potluck will be at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Community Bible Church in Cave Junction. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Community Bible Church in Cave Junction.
