Waltraud "Daisy" Fry

Waltraud “Daisy” Fry of Grants Pass died Thursday May 24th 2012 at her home after a 2 year battle with melanoma cancer.

Daisy was born in Mannheim (Schoneu) Germany August 2, 1938 to Karl Jung and wife Louise Jung (Gauss). Daisy grew up as a child of World War II and knew the perils of war. In May of 1956, she came to America. Daisy taught herself how to read and speak English. On January 14, 1962 Daisy became a U.S. citizen. Daisy settled in the small logging town of Powers, Oregon where her sister (sponsor) lived. There she met herfuture husband Ivan L. Fry. Ivan and Daisy were married December 10th, 1957 in Coquille, Oregon. Daisy and Ivan made their home in Powers and started raising their two daughters: Belva and Tina.

Daisy enjoyed traveling, camping, crafts, and shopping, but what she enjoyed most was sharing her German heritage with her family and friends. October was her favorite time of year when she was able to celebrate Oktoberfest with her family. She had many stories to tell of her life as a child growing up in Germany. Daisy made trips back to Germany to visit her sister and family while touring countries that bordered Germany. Daisy, with her sister Anneliese, traveled to Ireland, Hawaii, England, France, and covered most of the United States. Daisy visited her sister Annemarie in New York and family in Ohio throughout the years.

In the early 1990’s Daisy moved to Coos Bay, Oregon after the death of her husband Ivan. In 1996, Daisy moved to Grants Pass to be closer to her two daughters. Daisy loved Grants Pass with the nice weather and her close friends.

Survivors include her daughter Belva Bell and husband William Bell of Powers, daughter Tina and husband Randy Ames of Lake Shastina, California, grandson David Smith and wife Megan of Eagle Point, Oregon, granddaughter Racheal Smith of Powers, Oregon, grandson Derek Ames of Lake Shastina, California, sister Margot Nemetz of Caracas, Venezuela, and many numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death was her husband Ivan, sisters Anneliese, Annemarie, Johanna, a brother who died in infancy, mother Lousie Jung and father Karl Jung.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Hull & Hull Chapel with a gathering to follow. Private inurnment was held.
