Vivian Maxine Stevens, age 87, a resident of Grants Pass, Oregon for the past 62 years died Thursday, February 23, 2012.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Vivian was born May 9, 1924, in Salem, OR to Ervin Weidman and Ora (Weidman) Kaufman. She was raised on the south fork of the Yachats River in Yachats, Oregon. She attended school in Yachats and Waldport. She married Verlin H. Rhoades of Seal Rock, OR and had two children. She later married Carl Louis Stevens of Grants Pass who preceded her in death in 2004.
Vivian was a homemaker who enjoyed farming, raising vegetable and flower gardens, cooking, canning, and sewing. She was an avid camper, hunter, and fisherman. She also co-authored with the late Joseph M. Carson the historical book titled The Valley Called Home about the Yachats River Valley.
Survivors include a son Verlin R. Rhoades of Hillsborough, CA; a step-daughter Carla L. Stevens of Round Mountain, NV; two step-sons, Bruce A. Stevens of Grants Pass and Arden R. Stevens of Las Vegas, NV; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter Donna Lee Rhoades preceded her in death in 1949 in Bandon, OR.
