Vera Dorothy Kidney

Vera Dorothy Kidney, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Fair View Transitional Health Center.

A memorial service will be at 2:00, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Father Todd Young officiating. A reception will immediately follow at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Vera was born January 31, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to John & Martha Brandstead. Her Mother died when she was five years old and her Dad remarried Mabel, a loving Stepmother. As a child her family moved to Wilmington, California where her Dad was a mechanic. She attended Compton Junior College for two years. She married Donald Kidney on May 10, 1941. In 1948 they moved from Wilmington, California to Grants Pass where her husband worked as a dairy farmer.

She had a lifelong love of books and loved working at the library for 20 years. She also enjoyed tending her flowers and canning fruits and vegetables. She especially enjoyed her church, St. Luke’s Episcopal where she attended for over 60 years and was on the altar guild for many years.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Sons of Norway.

She volunteered for the Altar guild at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Her hobbies included reading, tending her flowers and canning fruits and vegetables.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Haak of Gresham, Oregon; a son, Paul Kidney of Grants Pass; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Donald Kidney in 1994.
