Troy Dee Stillwagon, age 57, of Grants Pass, Oregon passed away on Christmas Day with his wife by his side.
Troy was born July 18, 1963 in Biloxi, Mississippi. His family moved to Oregon when he was an infant, settling in Prospect in his teen years. His family owned the Prospect Store. He and his two brothers attended Prospect schools and Troy graduated from Prospect High school in 1981 with many sports awards and records. He then enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany from 1981 to 1984 where he quickly moved up to the rank of E5 Sergeant - quite an accomplishment for someone so young. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to the Tri City/Riddle area of Oregon where he became involved in the logging industry. He met the love of his life, Sherry Plumlee in 1986. They were married in 1991, and Troy loved becoming a husband and father to a daughter, Missie and son, Joshua. Eventually they added two more sons, Troy Allen and Jacob to their family. They lived-in various locations in Southern Oregon and Northern California settling in Grants Pass where Troy joined forces with Grayback Forestry becoming a wildland firefighter. He fought many wildland fires in Oregon and even fought fire in Tennessee during one of the worst fire seasons the United States has ever endured. Troy was a Squad Boss and an exceptional leader, admired and looked up to by many of his co-workers. His presence in the field will be sorely missed by all. His peers truly loved him and considered him as family.
He leaves behind his wife, Sherry Stillwagon, a daughter, three sons, six grandsons, a granddaughter, a great-grandson, a brother, his mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A family service will be held at a later date.
