Elrita “Torchy” Milton of Rogue River, age 73, passed away at home on July 26, 2007, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born January 3, 1934 in La Port, IN to the late Gunnar and Mary Wohgen. The family first moved to California, then to Oregon where they settled in Rogue River.
Torchy graduated from Rogue River High School and it was there that she received the nickname “Torchy” from her future husband Ralph, in honor of her red hair.
She married Ralph Milton in 1954 and they continued to live in Rogue River where they had two children. Torchy helped her husband run their logging contracting business until their retirement in 1986.
Forever optimistic, Torchy loved people and always saw good in everyone. She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and the beauty of nature.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ralph, her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Fred Kuhn of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Janet Milton of Newberg, OR, three grandsons Cody, Tyler, and Brandon, her sister Marie Schraner of Stockton, CA, her brother-in-law Bill Milton of Rogue River, and nieces and nephews as well as many wonderful friends.
There will be a private family service on Tuesday July 31 and Chaplain Sandi Richard’ will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Asante Hospice, Medford, OR.
We would like to thank Asante Hospice, Oncology of Southern Oregon, the gang at the Wimer caf, and all our wonderful family and friends who’ve been there throughout Torchy’s illness.
