Thelma Ann Coyle, age 96, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Brian Lee conducting. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

She was born Thelma Ann Johns On March 10, 1912 in Azalea to Frank & Lydia Johns. She was the granddaughter of the Azalea Valley Pioneers. She attended Galesville School until her family moved to Orland, California where she attended high school. On April 29, 1929 she married Hank Coyle and they lived in Hamilton City, California until returning to the Azalea Valley in 1944. They owned and operated a logging company with Thelma’s brother Tom and his wife, Genevieve. In 1959 they purchased a grocery store in Crescent, Oregon which they operated until retirement in 1974 when they moved to Grants Pass.

While living in Azalea she was involved in the Glendale PTA, Azalea Garden Club and numerous community activities.

She loved to crochet and knit. She enjoyed picking blackberries with her husband and making jams, jellies, pies and blackberry wine. Nothing made her happier than family picnics and potlucks.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Lydia Miller and her husband Walter of Grants Pass; and four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank Coyle; a daughter, Carol Ann Coyle; three brothers; two sisters.
