Steven Staker

Steven Staker, age 71, of Rogue River, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a long brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

A celebration of life is pending. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Steve was born August 20, 1942 in Ogden, Utah to Edna Amanda Ricks Staker & Thomas E. Staker. He was raised in California and moved to Southern Oregon in the early 1970s. In 1971 he met and married Gold Hill resident, Judy Dixson and together they lived in Wimer and Rogue River where they raised two children.

Steve was very active as a youth soccer coach, little league baseball and softball coach and enjoyed countless hours as a fan in the stands at his children’s various sporting events.

He played slow pitch softball with various teams throughout the valley and was an avid bird hunter and gardener. He was a big dog lover with a preference for Springer Spaniels. One of his favorite things was to share the fruits of his labor with those he loved, especially his yearly bumper crops of a wide variety of peppers and tomatoes.

Steve worked in the television cable business for the last 25 years and was a very familiar face to underground utility companies in the area.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Staker of Rogue River, Oregon; a daughter, Ella Staker of Talent, Oregon; a son, Steven Lee of Rogue River, Oregon; two grandchildren, Tyler Torgerson and Briseis Spurgeon both of Talent, Oregon; a sister, Joyce Gray of Carson City, Nevada; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Staker and a nephew, Greg Gray.
