Shirley Mae Coe, passed at her home in Grants Pass, Oregon
Shirley was Born and raised in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She went to school there and met her first love, Glen Wilcher, whom she married in Reno, Nevada. Together they had a son named, Ricky. Shirley was a homemaker. The marriage quickly dissolved. Shirley went to work for a short time to support herself and her child. In 1955 Shirley married, Richard Fogle they had 3 children; Laura, Jeffery, and Sharlene. They lived in Klamath Falls. In 1964 the family moved to Fremont, California. She was an Avon representative and made many friends that way. They stayed there until 1973 when they moved back to Oregon, and made their home in Grants Pass. Shirley also moved with Richard Fogle to McMinnville, Oregon. It was there that she worked in a Nursing home facility. A short time passed and she returned to Grants Pass. She continued in this profession. The residents of the nursing home used to call her 'race horse' because she was so quick to get down the hallway to their rooms when they needed anything. Shirley decided to open a Senior Foster Home in Grants Pass, and was a dedicated care provider to many. Subsequently, she and Richard divorced, re-married and divorced again. She gave everything of herself to others. Shirley met another man named Richard Coe, they had a great friendship. They later married at the courthouse in Grants Pass, Oregon and quickly divorced due to differences. She often found time to take trips to K-Falls to care for her ailing Mother, Ruby Phelps. Shirley stayed with her mother in her last year, dedicating her love and energy until her mother passed. In approximately 1999 Shirley became disabled and was unable to run her business. She moved to a mobile park for about 6 years. During that time she was an avid community volunteer and a member of many organizations. In 2005 Shirley moved to her son, Rick and daughter in-law, Connie’s property, located in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was always surrounded by the love of her family, she smiled and laughed often. Shirley lived out the rest of her life there. She was able to pass in her sleep peacefully at home just as she wished.
Shirley was a member of Eagles, Elks, Moose, Red Cross.
She volunteered at the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Senior Services as a driver, Bingo at nursing home.
Her hobbies included Bowling, Crochet, Painting, Playing dice and card games, Square Dance and Line Dance, and Singing as she worked.
She enjoyed collecting Elephants and things her family gave her.
Survivors include her children, Ricky Fogle, of Grants Pass, Laura Hoover, of Medford, Jeffery Fogle, of Pittsburg, CA, Sharlene Fielder of Beaverton; Siblings, Lyle Phelps, Kenny Phelps, and Sandy Tarr; and 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: Her parents Lyle, and Ruby Phelps, her sisters, Beverly Fitzgerald and Joann Hermanson, Her favorite Aunt, Afton Reynolds, Grandchild Julianne Fogle, Great Grandchild Ashley Long.
Shirley’s Celebration of life will be Saturday Oct 22, 2016 from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Merlin Community Center, 100 Acorn St. Merlin, OR.
