Shirley Jean Shipley

Shirley was born December 17, 1932 in Springfield, Missouri to Woodrow & Virginia Ball and soon moved to the West coast. In early life she moved to Southern Oregon. On June 9, 1950 she graduated from Grants Pass High School and on June 10, 1950 married Charles E. Shipley and they began a family of three sons. She first worked for the Tuberculosis Association. After her boys were teenagers she began a college career to become a schoolteacher. In 1970 she graduated from Southern Oregon College, the same year her son graduated from Grants Pass High School. She started her teaching career at Glendale Junior High School. In 1975 she moved to North Middle School and taught there until retirement in 1992.

In retirement, her life centered on her family, friends, travel, golf, gardening, and playing bridge.

Shirley passed peacefully on October 17, 2008 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Shipley of Grants Pass; three sons, Robert Shipley of Canby, Greg Shipley of Bend, and Randall Shipley of Sherwood; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2008 at Parkway Christian Center with Richard “Butch” Lamkin officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
