Sherman “Bud” Kiser, 84, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Fair View Transitional Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland, with Pastor Russell Gibson officiating. Hull and Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Winfield, Kansas on October 21, 1921, the oldest of six children of Will and Velma Kiser. He moved to Ashland in the 1930’s and went to school there. He trapped on the way to and from school. He has worked as a butcher, heavy construction and mill worker, as his father said to diversify. He moved to Grants Pass in the early 1950’s. In July of 1983 in Grants Pass, he married Ilene Jenkins, who survives. This was his third marriage.
He worked for Murphy Creek Mill for 27 years and retired from there. During World War II he served in the Philippines and received three purple hearts in action.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Jackson Co. #8; the American Legion Post 70 in Cave Junction; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #2302 in Grants Pass. He volunteered with Ilene at Roseburg VA from 1988 until 2001. He was also a member of the Rogue River Valley Grange.
He loved to fish, hunt, smoke meats and fish; and be with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Ilene Kiser of Grants Pass; survivors include his two sons, Raymond Kiser of Lebanon; and Allen Kiser of Keizer, Oregon; two daughters, Sharon Kiser of Phoenix; and Charlotte Kiser of Grants Pass; a step-son, Roy Jenkins of Escondido, California; step-daughter, Doll Jenkins of Sugarland, Texas; two sisters, Marie Dawkins of Phoenix; and Marion Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; a step-sister, Pamela Van Dyck of San Jose, California; a step-brother, Russell Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons in 2005, Art Kiser and Jim Kiser, his sister, Dione Skinner who also passed away last year; his brother Dale Kiser and sister, Dorothy Simpson, also preceded him in death.
