Sharon Thomas Kovacs

Sharon C. Thomas Kovacs, age 85, of Damascus, Oregon, died December 22, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Ashland, Oregon.

Sharon grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon and Hilt, California before moving to Glendale, Oregon when she was a young teenager. Sharon graduated from Glendale High School. She married Donald W. Thomas, and from that union a daughter and son were born. Sharon served as Noble Grand in the Mountaineer Rebekah Lodge #149 at Glendale and was active in FL Club activities. She became a certified medical emergency technician and volunteered as a medic for Glendale Ambulance; worked as an aide for Glendale School District; and later as a secretary for the Glendale Justice of the Peace. She attended Olivet Presbyterian Church.

The family moved to Grants Pass when the children were teens and Sharon worked at a law firm as a paralegal and later became a realtor. Sharon and Don divorced after 22 years of marriage.

Sharon moved to Portland where she continued to work in real estate and married Lou Kovacs. Sharon and Lou were married for 40 years before his death earlier this year.

Sharon loved to dance, paint pictures and trips to the coast.  She quietly did many acts of kindness, “paying it forward” long before the phrase became popular. She was patriotic and not bashful about expressing her opinion but always had a kind ear to listen to another’s problems.

Survivors include daughter Cynthia Rees of Ashland; son Steven Thomas of Grants Pass; sisters Leanne Humphreys of Glendale and Gail Proctor of Eagle Point; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by Don Thomas, Lou Kovacs, her brother, and a great-grandson.

A graveside service for Sharon has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 10th, 2:00pm at Glendale Memorial Cemetery in Glendale, Oregon.
