S. Janelle O'Neill

S. Janelle O’Neill, age 99, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at her home.

Family services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Janelle was born October 9, 1911 in Norton, Virginia. She grew up in Norton and graduated from high school there. In March 1930 she married her husband of 62 years, James Earl O’Neill. They moved to California where she worked in the Naval shipyards during World War II until 1945. They then moved to Redmond, Oregon and lived between Redmond and Long Beach, California until her husband retired on disability in 1971. At that time they moved to Bend and later Coquille where James preceded her in death in 1993. She had lived in Grants Pass since 2002.

She was a member of the YMCA where she enjoyed a water walking exercise class.

Her hobbies included flower gardening, canning, and cake baking.

Janelle is survived by three daughters, Joanna McCulloch of Coquille, Pat Scales and her husband Carl of Grants Pass, and Sue Green and her husband Lyle of Granite City, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
