The world lost a wonderful woman. Ruth Margaret Fausset was born April 3, 1915 in Cambridge, Illinois. When age 4 she moved with her family to Bishop, Oklahoma and a few years later to Darrouzett, Texas. She grew up with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. She spent lots of time helping her mother care for her younger siblings, including sewing clothes for her 3 little sisters. During her high school years, she was an all-star on both the Darrouzett and Booker, Texas girl's basketball teams. On November 28, 1933 she married Theodore Thomas Terrel. They eloped over the state line to Woodward, Oklahoma. During their marriage they lived in many towns in the western U.S. Ted was a contractor and because it was the Depression, he had to go where the work was. Their longest stays were in Kerby, Oregon and Douglas, Arizona. In 1965, Ruth was widowed. In 1971, she moved with her daughter, and her grandchildren to Grants Pass, Oregon. During her years here, she made her family members her big focus; they were her life. She ran a daycare out of her home until her mid 70s. She was Grandma Ruth to many. She loved growing lots of flowers, especially petunias, and she had the most beautiful yard on the street. Last spring and summer she planted and nurtured her last garden here on Earth. Ruth passed away peacefully after a long bout with flu and pneumonia on February 7, 2017. She was 101 years old, and she missed her 102 birthday by 1 month, 2 weeks, and 2 days. She is preceded in death by her father Frederick, and her mother Elizabeth DeSmith Fausset; 6 brothers, Maurice, Haurice, Alfred, Russel, Loren, and Kenneth; and 1 sister, Frances ; and both her beloved son and daughter, Ronnie and Judy Terrel. Living are 2 sisters, Viola Henry, and Bessie Lee Duke; 6 grandchildren, Dee Dee, Doug, Terrel, Janet, Nancy, and Shelly, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. There will be a private family service where her family will share memories of her life. Her remains will buried in Darrouzett, Texas next to her husband, mother, and other family members. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Hospice in your area.
