Ruth A. Cowin, age 87, of Central Point, died Saturday, July 11, 2009 in Central Point.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Wes Winn officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Ruth was born November 13, 1921 in Furley, Kansas to Walter Oscar Eilert & Lillie Mae Barker Eilert. She was raised in Kansas until the age of 16 when during the Great Depression she moved with her family to Woodland, California. In Woodland, she met Wilburn Cowin and they were married on September 18, 1939 in Reno, Nevada. In 1941 they moved to a farm in Fresno County and in 1946 moved to Caruthers, California where they farmed and ranched. From 1962 until 1983 they lived in California, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oregon where they bought and sold farms and ranches. In 1983 they moved from Arkansas to Grants Pass and in 1990 they moved to Central Point to be closer to family.
Everything in her life centered around family and helping with farming and ranching. Her many hobbies included sewing, embroidering, vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, baking and in her later years, reading, puzzles, and card games. Ruth loved music and as a young person won many awards when singing in a quartet with her sisters. She loved playing the piano and organ. This love of singing was carried on through her life with her own family.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald W. Cowin and wife Judy of Escalon, California and Richard W. Cowin and wife Margot of Chico, California; two daughters, Linda Holzhauser and husband Bert of Dorris, California and Janet Ouellette and husband Dan of Central Point; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Cowin on November 14, 1999 and an infant son, Dickie W. Cowin in 1940.
