Roy T. Whisenant, age 88, of Grants Pass, died February 6, 2017 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.
Roy was born March 18, 1928 in Lubbock, Texas to Clovis & Jackie Whisenant. He grew up and attended schools in Clovis, New Mexico. He served in the United States Army and moved from Clovis to Grants Pass 65 years ago. On June 9, 1951 in Grants Pass, he married Ella Fitzgerald-Downes. For many years, he worked in local plywood mills. After his retirement, he taught ornamental blacksmithing including through the Josephine County Historical Society, Pottsville Museum, and all over southern Oregon and northern California.
His hobbies included ornamental blacksmithing, Bible studies and teaching at local churches.
He most recently attended Calvary Crossroads.
Survivors include his wife, Ella “Dee” Whisenant; a daughter, Terry Hankins; and two sons, Tom Whisenant and Bruce Whisenant; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Calvary Crossroads with Pastor Bob Bonner officiating.
