Roy Oudinot passed away peacefully holding his wife’s hand at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass, Oregon on March 14, at the age of 90.
Roy was born the first child to Jessie B. Peters and George E. Oudinot in Stevenson, Washington on January 12, 1926. He attended Stevenson High School before joining the Navy in August of 1943. He served during WWII in the “Joint Task Force One” atomic bomb tests in “Operation Crossroads” at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands aboard the USS Pennsylvania.
After serving his country for four years in the Navy, Roy returned to Stevenson, Washington where he met his wife, Mary E. Fountain, received his GED and served as a night marshall for the Stevenson Police Dept.
Two short months after courting Mary, they decided to hold hands every day for the rest of their lives. They married in Vancouver, WA on November 12, 1948 and shared a wonderful and loving 67 years together. They spent the last 56 years in their home in Grants
Pass, where they raised their children and made memories that will be passed on for generations to come.
Roy worked as a foreman in the plywood industry, and retired after 31 years; although, his grandchildren believed he “made beans” at the bean factory! He spent the next 15+ years pursuing one of his loves, driving, which he did for Lithia Auto Center and the Galice Resort. In addition to driving, he loved to fish, bowl and visit the casinos. He worked hard to regain his strength in hopes of playing many more hands of 3 card poker.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; and his younger sister, Dolly Graham.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; and his children, Roy A. Oudinot, Ellen Y. Oudinot-Robertson, and Neil B. Oudinot.
Roy was an amazing grandfather to Shioan and Acacia Oudinot, Nick Young, Kaine, Brandi, and Landon Robertson, Nikki, Lindsey and Ryan Oudinot. He was also a proud great-grandpa
to Eston and Sahalie Oudinot, Shanarra, Jhaycee, and Jhordyn Robertson.
A service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in Grants Pass at Hull & Hull Mortuary. He will be inurned at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Lung Association.
