Rosine M. Nichols, age 83, of Grants Pass, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at a local adult foster home.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Pastor Russ Millsaps officiating. At a later date a service will be scheduled in San Diego, California.
She was born August 11, 1925 to Malinda Evans and Nesbert Sumpter in Hughes County, Oklahoma. The family moved to Bonita, California in 1927. In 1945, she married Herbert Garcia who died in 1967. She married Frederick Nichols in 1969. In 1978 they moved to Grants Pass and in 1987 she retired from Thrifty/Payless Drug Store. She was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served in the WAC during World War II.
She enjoyed cards with family, gardening, sewing, crafts, needlework, reading and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her children Joette Hammett in Ramona and Clifford Garcia in Poway, California; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Alta Parkhurst; brother E.C. Sumpter in Chula Vista, California, and bother-in-law, Frank Lubowicki.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Syble Lubowicki and Hettie Millhoff, and brother William Sumpter
