Ronald S. Bateman

Ronald S. Bateman, age 69, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

Ron was born November 25, 1946 to John Stuart Bateman & the former Marie Helen (Enzler) in Sacramento, California. He proudly served in the United States Navy as part of the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) Eleven and the Navy Seals. He fought in Viet Nam where he received the Vietnam Service Medal and a Combat Action Ribbon. Ron was one of the Navy Seal “Frogman” who recovered the Apollo 10 capsule. He also served on the recovery team for Apollo 11, which landed on the moon.

After moving to Southern Oregon he lived in Cave Junction and Grants Pass.

He is survived by his friends at Oak Lane Retirement.

A committal service with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
