Ron was born June 12, 1949 in Portland, Oregon to La Donna Johnston. He was adopted and raised by Ben & Jean Appling in Quincy, Washington. He graduated from Quincy High School. In 1973 he met Debbie and later married in Carson City, Nevada and raised two sons in the Merlin area. In 1972 he moved from Quincy, Washington to Grants Pass. He was currently employed by Harry & David in Medford, a job he really loved. He was always talking about what a great crew he worked with, especially the fun Guyz committee. He was proud to be a part of that company and the Hyster Driver Rodeo was so fun for him. He worked many years planting trees all over Oregon and many seasons at the hop yards, 20 years for Pats Sanitation. He liked operating equipment, cats, hysters, etc.
Ron’s loved family camping trips, time with his family, fishing in his boat, gardening, reading, hunting and woodworking. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his children and grandsons play sports.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Lawson of Grants Pass; children Erin Appling and wife Dee and Jesse Appling; his aunt, Marilyn Dickinson; a brother, Wes Appling; many cousins and two grandchildren, JaVan and Jerin Appling.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben & Jean Appling.
