Robert Lee Pettit, age 78, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

He was born July 2, 1929 in Belvedere Gardens, California to Schuylar & Rosalie (Gilmore) Pettit. He attended school in Sunny Valley when it was known as Graves Creek. He was involved in his family’s logging business. On September 2, 1949 in Grants Pass he married Billie Joan Ballou and they divorced in 1962. He worked as a plasterer in Grants Pass and after moving to Northern California he joined the union local #355 as a plasterer until his retirement in 1985. In 1989 he returned to Grants Pass moving from Novato, Marin County, California.
His hobbies included deer hunting, camping, spending time in the outdoors, and boating.
Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Pettit Sr of Maui, Hawaii and Gary L. Pettit of Grants Pass; a daughter, Charlene Nelson of Grants Pass; a stepdaughter, Janelle Tomaszewski of Grants Pass; a sister, Phyllis Miller of Yuba City, California; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick S. Pettit in 2002; a granddaughter, Skylar Pettit on March 17, 2007; and his former wife, Joan on April 22, 1985.
