Robert Ralph James

Bob James, age 81, of Grants Pass, Oregon passed away peacefully on August 29. 2023.

Bob was an only child raised by his mother Alta Fae and father Bill Baker.  He was born in Oakland,  California but moved quite a bit as a boy and young man before settling permanently in Oregon.  He first met his wife Shirley in high school but they lost touch for many years. Along the way he completed a stint in the US Army where he met his life-long friend Dan Kassner with whom he made a very memorable trip across Great Britain. 

He loved to travel and try new experiences.  He never met an animal that he did not try to befriend. Over the years he shared his love of music with friends and loved to serenade them in his big booming voice. 

He reconnected with Shirley and they were married for over 30 years constantly supporting each other through thick and thin.

Survivors include his wife Shirley and his daughter Wendy Benya.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Savage Street Building in Grants Pass.
