Robert G. 'Bob' Chambers, age 75, of Grants Pass, died Monday, May 11, 2015 at Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Bob was born September 15, 1939 in Bakersfield, California to Glenn and Marie Chambers. He attended Poly High School in Long Beach, California. In 1957 he married Dorothy Phillippi and they had four children, Ronald, Cindy, Jimmy and Charles.
Throughout his life he had various and interesting careers, early on he worked on building movie sets, he then worked for Kit trailers manufacturing travel trailers.
He moved his family to Walnut Creek, California where he began his career in construction working with a life long friend Jim Turner.
In 1980 he moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where he met and married Elaine Perfect. They met while doing the thing they both enjoyed….golfing.
In 1981 they relocated to Anchorage, Alaska where he continued in construction launching his own business Perfect Construction. He and Elaine also opened a small tool business called “Tools R Us” which specialized in Makita hand tools. And of course the head of the repair and maintenance department was none other than Bob!
He also worked for Mark Air as supervisor. He was the overseer of their remodeling and maintenance in the terminal passenger registration areas throughout the state of Alaska.
Aside from his working career he was a proficient golfer and he loved to fish. Alaska provided a perfect opportunity to do both.
He loved to tinker and could be found in his garage most days working on most anything from cars to motorcycles to small engines. He was always rebuilding something or trying to restore a broken down anything to its former glory. We felt he could fix or build anything. A true “Jack of all trades”.
Upon retiring and selling his business he and Elaine moved back to Grants Pass to join his sister, Gwena and brother-in-law, Earl. They enjoyed many motorhome trips together discovering the West Coast. He also got to share his love of golf with his nephew Howard. Many times they would strike out to explore the local courses and Uncle Bob normally came out the winner!
He was a wonderful husband, loving brother, father, uncle and grandfather. He would help any in need with his many talents.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Elaine, daughter Cindy, son Charles. Step-daughters Linda, Deborah and Sheryl. Step-sons Bobby and Leroy. Sister Gwena and brother-in-law Earl. Nephews Howard and Bill. Niece Tina. He had 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
