Robert D. Hayden, age 79, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at his home.
A wake will be held at Robert’s 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2008. He will be cremated and his remains will be carried back to Alma, Illinois. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
He was born on November 11, 1928 in Ward, Arkansas to Thomas C & Beulah A. Hayden. In 1946 he graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Illinois. He married Ruby F. Rhoads in 1950 in Salem. In 1961, after he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army, Robert moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked for Reynolds Electric Company at the Nevada test site and in addition to working at the test site, he was a licensed contractor in the Las Vegas area where he built and sold homes. After retiring in 1995, he moved to Grants Pass.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Salem, Illinois and a member of the teamsters union.
His hobbies included working on cars, building homes and going to the horse races. He especially enjoyed his family and his friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruby Hayden of Grants Pass; a son, James R. Hayden of Williams; two daughters, Lynn A. Hayden and Connie M. Hayden, both of Grants Pass; a sister, Doris Reed of California and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
