Robert “Bob” Loomis, 69, of Grants Pass, Oregon passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Sacred Heart Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Newman United Methodist Church in Grants Pass. Immediately following will be a reception at the Grants Pass Golf Club to further celebrate Bob’s life and share memories.
Bob was born in Salem, Oregon in 1949 to Robert and Jean Loomis. He graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1967 and Oregon State University in 1971. Immediately following graduation, he joined the Oregon State Police where he was assigned to Grants Pass. On March 20, 1977, he married Joyce Turner. After dedicating 28 years to the State Police, he retired as a detective in 1999. In his retirement years, he enjoyed rooting for his beloved OSU Beavers, frequent trips to Reno, and spending time on the golf course. He and Joyce enjoyed traveling the west coast and their most recent trip to Europe.
Bob could frequently be found in a gym cheering on his grandchildren at basketball games or at the Grants Pass Golf Club mentoring and caddying for them in Junior Golf.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Joyce Loomis, daughter Carrie and son-in-law Casey Alderson, son Joe and daughter-in-law Jeni Loomis, grandchildren Brooke, Trey, Kellen, Meyers, and Rory, father R.B. Loomis, sisters Lucy Angelechio and Sue Loomis-Wilson, and five nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Grants Pass High School Athletic Department - Bob Loomis Memorial Golf Fund - at 830 N.E. 9th Street, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 to support the men’s and women’s high school golf teams.
Bob’s sense of humor, quick wit, and caring heart will be greatly missed.
