Robert A. “Bob” Wilson, age 67, of Grants Pass, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born January 31, 1945 in Orange, California to Richard & Mildred (Gill) Brown. After his father’s death in 1950 in a fishing accident, his mother remarried Earl T. Wilson who became his stepfather in 1951. Bob was raised by his grandmother, Edna Gill in Grants Pass. In 1963 he graduated from Laurelwood Academy, a boarding school near Portland. He attended college in Walla Walla, Washington before enlisting in the United States Navy as a medical corpsman. For 20 years he served in the Navy and completed one tour in Vietnam. For 38 years he was married to Lula Beth Wilson. After his retirement from the Navy in San Diego, California he moved to Arlington, Texas where he worked in various jobs including pizza delivery. In 1997 he moved from Arlington to Grants Pass and graduated from Rogue Community College Phi Beta Kappa in 1998 as a medical transcriptionist.
His hobbies included reading; playing poker; helping others; bowling and was a part of many bowling leagues; and watching television, especially CSI and Bones. He loved conversations and visits with his daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Rachelle Wilson-Rogers, Rebecca Newman, and Reny Wilson all of Arlington, Texas; a sister, Melanie Wilson of Grants Pass, Oregon; two brothers, Earl Wilson of Hilo, Hawaii and Bruce Wilson of Grants Pass, Oregon; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Wilson in 2004; a brother, Richard Wilson in 2003; and a sister, Ellen Mae Brown in 1950; his mom, Mildred Wilson in 1993; and his dad, Earl T. Wilson in 2006.
