Richard L. Sells, age 49, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his home.
Private services will be held. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
He was born Richard Lawrence Sells on September 15, 1962 in San Luis Obispo, California to Donnie & Carol (Baker) Sells. He grew up in Arroyo Grande, California and graduated from high school there. He started work in ranching with his Uncle Bill and Uncle Billy in Creston, California. Eventually he was known as an excellent ranch hand and worked for many ranches over the years. He was a self-taught mechanic working mostly on tractors and other heavy machinery. He moved from Creston to Grants Pass two years ago.
His hobbies included cars, mechanics, and watching old western shows, especially Gunsmoke and Cheyenne. He also enjoyed sports especially football – St. Louis Rams, baseball – Los Angeles Dodgers, and NASCAR – A.J. Allmendinger.
Survivors include five children, Donnie Sells of Doniphan, Missouri, Melissa Sells of Visalia, California, Dillon Sells, Dalton Sells, and Hailey Sells all of Grants Pass, Oregon; his parents, Donnie & Carol Sells of Grants Pass, Oregon; three sisters, Cathy Holt and Julie Murray both of Atascadero, California and Dawn Sells of Grants Pass, Oregon; and five grandchildren.
