Richard Joseph Winner

Richard “Dick” J. Winner, age 92, of Grants Pass, passed away at Providence Medford Medical Center on May 20, 2018.

Survivors include daughters Gale McKinley, Linda Wood, sons Gregory, Jeffory and Kenneth. Other survivors include sisters Sue and Sharon and brother Roger. Dick also leaves five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ellen. They retired in the Grants Pass area from Diamond Bar, California in 1991. They were married on July 2, 1950 in Lebanon, Indiana. Dick was also preceded in death by son Gary and brother Bruce.

Richard was born in Charles City, Iowa on December 28, 1925 to parents Ruth Garthwaite and Arthur Winner. He graduated from Mason City High School in Mason City Iowa in 1944. Richard joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1944 and served with the 2137th Army Air Forces Base Unit in Florida. He was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945. Dick went on to obtain a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1949. He worked for a number of aerospace engineering firms. In 1974, he became self-employed as an electrical contractor before retiring in 1991.

Dick enjoyed golf, woodworking, spoiling grandchildren, tinkering with electronics and Ellen’s pecan pies and everything else she prepared for meals.

Visitation will be held at Hull & Hull Chapel on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.. A burial service will be held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., May 31, 2018.
