Richard H. Shawn

Richard H. Shawn, age 83, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his home.

A celebration of life will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Tap Rock Restaurant. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Richard was born June 9, 1930 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Homer Vester Shawn & Eva Lee (Sims) Shawn. In 1942 he moved from Oklahoma to Grants Pass. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Japan. Richard attended Contra Costa Junior College in Richmond, California where he received his Associates Degree. In 1951 at the Grants Pass courthouse, he married Mildred Nations. From 1955 to 1999 he worked for Spalding & Son as a timber faller.

Richard was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

As an avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Shawn; three daughters, Kathy VanIersel, Rhonda Pelham and husband Richard, and Karen Frick and husband Jim; a sister Estelle Bennett; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a daughter, Sherry Lee Shawn; three brothers, Delbert, Harold and Robert; and his parents, Homer & Eva Shawn.
