Richard Allan Phillips

July 19, 1939 — October 23, 2020

Richard Allan Phillips, age 81, of Gold Hill, Oregon, died at his home on October 23, 2020.

He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. In 1965, after he served in the United States Navy, Richard started a bicycle shop in Monterey Park, California and soon married the love of his life, Molly. Richard and Molly moved their family to Gold Hill, Oregon in 1976, and Richard opened “Dicks Bike Shop” in Grants Pass. His honest work ethic and high standards are well known by the community. Richard resided in the valley for 44 years where he continued to raise his family, was an active member of the community, and served the Lord. Richard had a presence that could be felt anytime he entered a room; he brought out the best in people and always did what was right. Richard was always happy, and was genuinely interested in the people he met. He enjoyed being involved with his church community, his friends at Agate Flying Field, and as a Gideon for over 30 years.

The only thing Richard loved more than building and flying model airplanes, was sharing them with his friends and family in his flight shop. He could see every detail of the plane and would not stop until perfection was reached. Richard was a hard worker and there was never a job that he did not finish. He was a simple and straight forward man. Being genuine came easy to Richard; he cared deeply about his friends and family. To his church, Foots Creek Chapel in Gold Hill, Richard was a respected man that did any task asked of him. To his family, he was a role model. A man of wisdom who was always available to give sound advice. At home, Richard loved the daily rituals that he shared with Molly, and their dog, Deke. Every day, Richard looked forward to his three-mile walk, which he did for 30 years. He enjoyed sharing his home with family to watch motorcycle races and other events. In his younger years, he raced motorcycles and piloted airplanes. Richard was a fun, honest, genuine person that was truly endeared by all who knew him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Betty Phillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Molly Phillips; three daughters, Molly Jane (Don) Perry, Terry Hayes, and Kelly (Panch) Lizarraga; three sons, Richard Phillips Jr, Larry Hayes, and Michael (Kathy) Hayes; and 13 grandchildren Ryan, Dane, Zack, Natasha, Tayler, Marina, Robby, Randy, Kaleb, Justin, Angela, Tony, and Michael.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. A private memorial service will also be held. For more information please contact Rich at 541.761.1817.
