It is with sadness, gratitude and love that we let you know that our dad Ray Spencer Sr. 76, of Grants Pass, owner of the Herb Shop, died on March 20, 2014. Hull and Hull funeral directors handled the arrangements. Our dad passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by the love and prayers of his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He is survived by our mom Gloria Spencer, and his children, Ray Spencer Jr., Diana Spencer, Timothy Spencer, Nahum Spencer all of Grants Pass Oregon and Tammi Spencer of Ashland Oregon, a sister, Veronica Spencer in Texas a brother Rudy Spencer and many nieces and nephews of San Jose California, 20 grand and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter Julie Ann Spencer of Grants Pass and two brothers, Freddy Spencer of San Jose California and David Spencer of San Jose California.
He was born in Los Angeles California on Dec. 7, 1937. Our dad was a special man who touched many lives through his work at the Herb Shop. He loved sharing his knowledge and wisdom about herbs, vitamins and alternative healing methods and talking to people from all walks of life. He took over the Shop in 1986 in a small space on the corner of Seventh and G streets then expanded in the mid 1990's to its current location at the corner of Fourth and G streets and grew it into the place of healing and information that it is today. He was very proud to be of service to his community through this medium and always wanted to offer a hand up to those in need.
He loved his children and took pride in their accomplishments and in the fact that they provided him with 20 grand children and 6 great grand children. He was very grateful to the current and past employees of the Herb Shop, who helped make it the success it is today. He also loved the Land in Sunny Valley and was proud to call himself brother and friend to the Sunny Valley family. He enjoyed collecting coins and going to yard sales and flea markets, he loved sushi and chocolate clairs and being out in nature.
We are all very grateful for all the love, prayers and well wishes that have been expressed during these past 8 weeks and we want to thank the employees and volunteers at Lovejoy Hospice and the community of Grants Pass.
In lieu of gifts or flowers please consider making a contribution in his name to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 SW Eighth St., Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 or to GMO Free Josephine County, PO Box 1183, Grants Pass, Oregon.
A celebration of his life will be held on May 4th 3-5 at the All Sports Park in Grants Pass.
