Phyllis Elene Cutler

Phyllis Elene Cutler, 90, of Grants Pass died Friday, August 3, 2007 at her home in Countryside Village.

Private graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Southern Oregon Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cutler was born on December 12, 1916 in Aberdeen, Washington. She spent much of her childhood at her Isaacson family farm in Winlock, Washington. In 1939 she married George Ernest Cutler in Portland, Oregon. Her husband worked for the FAA and in 1943 they were transferred to Anchorage, Alaska. They boarded a ship and set sail with a their new baby daughter, to begin a 25 year Alaskan life adventure. The couple retired to Ashland, Oregon in 1968 where they were founding members of the Rogue Valley Alaska Club. In 1987 they moved to Grants Pass.

Phyllis was a Brownie Troop Leader, a charter member of the Anchorage Youth Cotillion Club, active in the Alaska March of Dimes and the Grants Pass Friendship Club.

Phyllis was an artist, especially painting; and an avid gardener. Many of her creative floral arrangements won her blue ribbons. She also enjoyed hiking with her husband.

Mrs. Cutler is survived by her three daughters, Christine Anderson of Molalla, Oregon; Janice Soeteber of Grants Pass; and Nadine Slama of Gig Harbor, Washington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

According to her grandchildren, she was “The best grandmother in the world. She always supported us in all we did.” Her life was her family, her friends and her deep appreciation for the Arts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Cutler, and a granddaughter.
