Peter Keith Downing

Peter Keith Downing, age 55, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at his home.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Jerome Prairie Bible Church with Pastor James Downing officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Jerome Prairie Bible Church, (Mexico Youth Mission Fund) 2564 Walnut Avenue, Grants Pass, Oregon 97527.

Peter was born August 8, 1955 in San Luis Obispo, California. In 1973 he graduated from Del Norte High School. He attended Grand Rapids School of the Bible & Music, College of the Redwoods, and Umpqua Community College. Over the years he worked in different areas including owning his own parcel delivery service in Coos Bay; maintenance person for Houser Community Church for over ten years; and was an electrical apprentice in commercial construction.

For over 20 years he volunteered with Boy Scouts of America serving in every role including Cub Master, Scout Master, and Commissioner. He received the Silver Beaver Award. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity building homes. Over the years he took over 200 teens on mission trips to Mexico.

Peter loved serving others. His hobbies were gold panning, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors include his parents, Robert & Erma Downing; three sisters, Lorraine Davis, Nancy DeJesus, and Salena Cox; and a brother, James Downing.

He was preceded by a brother, Paul Downing.
