Oscarlee Fenton, age 92, of Grants Pass, Oregon passed away on June 1st, 2024 at home.
Oscarlee was born on August 30, 1931 in Nisland, South Dakota to Jacob Oscar Fenton and Ruth (Scotney) Fenton. He grew up on a farm with 5 brothers and served in the 1st Cavalry in Japan during the Korean War. After graduating with a civil engineering degree from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, he moved to California where he helped build bridges, highways, the California Aqueduct and the Oroville Dam. He later worked on dam projects in East Pakistan as part of the USAID program.
After returning to the United States, he settled in San Rafael, California where he raised his two sons, Clark and Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie (Lewis) Fenton in 1984. He later remarried Nancy (Morris) Cuneo and moved to Southern Oregon. Nancy passed away several years ago.
He was a quiet but engaged parent who was always willing to help those around him. He was a longtime Boy Scout dad who enjoyed taking his family on road trips across the country. He was passionate about his work as a civil engineer and helped revitalize the area around Candlestick Park after the damage left by the military. He was also involved in water treatment projects in the East Bay. He was General Manager of the East Bay Dischargers Authority.
In his later years, Oscarlee enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a certified Master Gardener with the Oregon State University, and he volunteered with Meals on Wheels until well into his 80's. He was a supporter of local mental health charities and animal shelters.
Oscarlee is survived by his sons, Clark and Wayne Fenton; step-children Mary, Paul, and Lisa; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Sadie Mae. He was preceded in death by his wives Connie and Nancy, and brothers Kenneth, Norman, Marvin, and Wayne. He is survived by his brother Donald Ray.
