Ole Konrad Olson, age 98, of Grants Pass, died Monday, January 5, 2009 at his home.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 12, 2009 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Jeff Prosise, Minister officiating. Committal services will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2009 at Riviera Mobile Home Park Recreation Hall (5076 Leonard Road). Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
The family is requesting in Ole’s memory that instead of flowers, a donation may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, Oregon 97502.
Ole was born October 30, 1910 in Kadoka, South Dakota to Henry Olson & Mary (Haga) Olson. He was one of eight children and three survive him. As a young man in 1938 he came to Portland, Oregon to attend L Adcok trade school to learn diesel mechanics. In 1939 he returned to South Dakota to bring his mother and future wife west. On June 24, 1939 he married Mary Lucille Seidler and they lived in a logging camp in Tionesta, California until they moved to Grants Pass in 1940. He was in logging and timber most of his life, working with Loyd Basey, the Hassett Brothers, and Bates Plywood in Merlin, where he retired. In 1977 his first wife passed away and a year later he married Anna Basey. They lived in Fallon, Nevada and together they traveled and enjoyed many hobbies until her death in 1998. Ole then moved back to Grants Pass to be closer to family.
Until his death he was very active with many hobbies. They included leatherworking, wood carving, building model wagons, and always enjoyed feeding the birds. He loved rock hounding, farming, gardening, sharing the produce that he grew, and especially enjoyed his family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Humphrey of Grants Pass; a stepson, Clinton Basey of Silver Lake, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Barbara Harper and her husband Carl of Martinez, California; two sisters, Bertha Smith of Grants Pass and Margaret Kelliher of Long Beach, California; a brother, Herbert Olsen of Yucca Valley, California; a grandson, Lance Humphrey and his wife, Kelli of Grants Pass; two granddaughters, Konni Crawford and her husband Lester of Grants Pass and Bonnie Skirvin and her husband Jack of Las Vegas, Nevada; three great-granddaughters, Kristi Harvey-Simi and her husband Pete of Omaha, Nebraska, Brandi Martin of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Anja Crawford of Grants Pass; two great-grandsons, Earl Crawford and Curtis Humphrey both of Grants Pass; two great-great-grandsons, Bryce Harvey-Simi of Omaha, Nebraska and Saadque Martin of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, Mary and his second wife, Anna; he was preceded in death by a son, Grover K. Olson and a grandson, Richard Humphrey.
