Nacor (Nick) Tobias Ortega

June 11, 1941 — April 8, 2017

In Loving Memory:
Nacor (Nick) Tobias Ortega passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep on April 8th 2017, in Grants Pass, OR.
Nick was born on June 11th 1941 to Nacor Eliasim Ortega and Anna Maria Elena (Helen) Maes in Trinidad, Colorado. Growing up Nick lived in Trinidad, Denver and Grand Junction, Colorado before moving to San Francisco, California. He attended Mission High School in San Francisco, CA. Then joined the U.S. Army in 1960. He was part of the 1st Signal Battallion in Boblingen, Germany. Nick married Rosemarie (Cookie) Ordonez in 1961. While stationed in Germany, they were blessed with their first child, Anthony Ortega in 1963. After his Honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the U.S. and was blessed with two more children, Dee Dee Ortega Tausaga in 1964 and Veronica Ortega Ordonez in 1965.
Nick worked for PG&E painting the high towers in San Francisco Bay. He also worked many years with Anchor Fence, a short time with Sequoia School District in Redwood City, then started his own business Torondee Fence. Nick always enjoyed a challenge. If there was a difficult job that no one else wanted to do, he gladly took it on to show everyone his 'Can Do / Crazy Attitude', and always took pride in everything he did.
He was a very creative soul. With no formal training, he just had a natural artistic ability shown in his writing and drawing beautiful pictures. He also had an ear for music and was very talented. Some of those talents were demonstrated when he was a young man playing trumpet in the Drum and Bugle Corps., playing Taps at funeral processions and later on with the Harmonica. He played beautifully and we loved to hear him. He could definitely make that harmonica sing.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him can attest that he was a Character, with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed telling jokes and always wanted to make everyone laugh. He was a Good Father, a Kind, Loving Man, a Hard Worker and definitely always entertaining. He enjoyed spending time with his family and is Dearly Missed. Nick spent his later life in San Jose, California with his son, Anthony. Then in April 2016 relocated to Oregon to be near one of his daughters, Dee Dee, her family and his Mom, Helen Arguello who is 97 and living in a residential care facility in Grants Pass, OR. Nick was living at Brookdale Senior Living in Grants Pass, OR at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Ortega, son Anthony Ortega, daughters Dee Dee Tausaga and Veronica Ordonez, his mother Helen Arguello, brothers Robert and Bryan Ortega, sisters Janice Ortega and Carol Hullinger, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, plus numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Nacor Eliasim Ortega, sisters Patricia Arguello, and Joyce Ortega Munoz.
In his honor, we are planning something very special for his Celebration of Life Memorial. It will take place on August 19th 2017 in San Jose, California. The family invites you to please save the date. We will share more specific details as it gets closer to the date.
