Myron "Don" Oscar Tarabochia

Myron Oscar “Don” Tarabochia, of Cave Junction, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at his home after a vigorous battle with Carcinoid Cancer. He was 66 years old.

Don was born July 6, 1946 in San Francisco, California and later moved to the Santa Clara Valley where he worked for the San Jose Mercury News for 36 years until his retirement.

He served his country as an Air Traffic Controller in the Vietnam War.

He was an avid outdoorsman loving fishing, hunting and woodworking. With his friends and family, he enjoyed traveling, backpacking, skiing, bicycling, camping, boating, and working in the woods. Many beautiful scenes and memories were captured in his photographs. He wasn’t the quiet type, but was quick to laugh, smile, tell stories, and savored every moment of every day. He shared good times with family and friends over dinners, concerts, picnics, or on the back patio, always with a glass of his favorite red wine (Zinfandel).

One of his great joys was moving out of the busy city and into the peace and tranquility of the Oregon woods.

He was a sensitive loving father and husband. A great role model and friend who always made us laugh, and was able to find pleasure in the most simple of things. He is survived by his wife Lillia Young; his sons Michael and David Tarabochia, Christopher and Richard Young; and grandchildren Samantha, Jessica, Clara, and Brandon; and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Dick Boothe.

The family would like to thank Lovejoy Hospice, and Randi with her team, for their kind and compassionate care of Don and his family.

He was laid to rest at Eagle Point National Veterans Cemetery.
