The memorial service for Mildred “Millie” Mabel Yakel, will be Friday, March 29th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. It will be held at Hull & Hull Chapel, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass.
Mildred was born August 20th, 1928 in Modesto, California to Martin and Helen Rackley and passed away March 21, 2013 in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Mildred attended elementary school in Salida and Georgetown and graduated high school in Ripon, California. She lived with her parents until she married John Yakel, September 8, 1959 in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Salida, Manteca, and Happy Camp, California until 1974 when they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where she resided until her death.
Mildred was a home maker and “stay at home” mother while her 5 children were growing up. She played baseball in her younger years and instilled in each of her children the love of sports. Mildred enjoyed sewing, making quilts with her mother, and hand stitching pillows for family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, board games, bingo, and yahtzee.
After “retirement” she started a paper route and delivered paper for the Grants Pass Courier for several years.
In 2008, Mildred became a “temporary” resident of Royale Gardens Nursing Home, where she resided until her death. She was loved and cared for by many people. Her smile, giggle, and cheerful attitude, will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, William “Bill” Rackley, Valerie Martin, Stephen Yakel, Cindy Yakel, and Kevin Yakel; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; her brother, Lawrence Rackley; and sisters, Maxine Case and MaryLou Steely.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Yakel; her parents Martin and Helen Rackley; and brothers Keith Rackley and William Rackley.
