Melvin L. Fosenburg, age 79, of Grants Pass, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at his home.
Private services have been held. Interment was at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Melvin was born November 23, 1931 in Boone, Iowa to John & Marjorie Fosenburg. After graduating from Ogden High School he joined the United States Navy. While stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station he met his future wife. On February 20, 1954 they were married. After serving in the United States Navy he attended the University of Iowa for one year. From there they moved to California and he attended and graduated from San Francisco State University. He went to work as an assessor for Contra Costa County and retired 37 years later. Fifteen years ago he moved to Grants Pass.
Hobbies include golfing and watching the Oakland Raiders.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Fosenburg of Grants Pass; four sons, Michael Fosenburg of California, Jeffrey Fosenburg and Steven Fosenburg both of Brentwood, California, David Fosenburg of Shady Cove, Oregon; two daughters, Elaine Shill of Springfield, Oregon and Vickie Black of Brownsville, Oregon; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Long of Calhoun, Georgia and Pat Neel of Perry, Iowa and one brother, John Fosenburg of Des Moines, Iowa.
