Melvin E. Davidson passed away February 15, 2021. He was born July 6, 1930, in Palisade, Minnesota. At the age of 6 he went to live with Frank & Dollie Davidson. In 1948 he moved to Leland, Oregon and began working in the lumber industry. Melvin served with the 24th Ordinance Company Medium Maintenance in the United States Army from 1951-1956. He was a Korean War veteran and honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. After the war, in 1953, he came back to Grants Pass to work in the lumber industry. In 1968 he was elected the union representative of the local 3009, Lumber and Sawmill Workers. He served this position until his retirement in 1992. Melvin was one of the original founders of the Caveman Vintage Car Club. Melvin was the adventurous type and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He most of all enjoyed elk hunting with his son, son-in-law, and grandsons in Eastern Oregon. Melvin had a kind hearted soul and always greeted people with a smile, handshake or a hug. Melvin was known as “Dad” by his son and daughter and “Papa” by his grandsons, granddaughter and most importantly by his great-grandsons. He is preceded in death by parents, brother Ray as well as his other 15 brothers and sisters. Melvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy. Two children Tim (Vickie), Melony (Todd). Four grandchildren Ryan (Jenna), Erik (Shelby), Nicolas and Ambur and two great-grandsons Weston and Reece. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Portland Shriner’s Hospital in memory of Melvin.
