May E. Walker

May E. Walker, age 80, of Merlin, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The family will host a BBQ at the home of Jenifer McNair immediately following the memorial service at Ichabod Lane, off Sleepy Hollow Loop in Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

May was born May 5, 1930 in Bray, Oklahoma to Martha & Thomas Lumpkin the only daughter of five children. In 1948 she married Virgil Walker by a Justice of the Peace in Reno, Nevada. They resided in Klamath Falls, Oregon for one and a half years where a daughter, Virgilene “Suzi” Walker was born. After moving to Spokane, Washington a son Michael Joseph Walker and a daughter Vicki Lynn Walker were born. The family also lived in Sunny Valley until 1954 when they moved to Merlin, Oregon where the “baby” Pat Lorraine Walker was born. May worked for Grants Pass School District #7 as a special education transportation driver for 12 years.

May attended the Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday school special education classes and later attended Vineyard Christian Fellowship for over 20 years. She was a PTA mom and school volunteer.

She was an artist and enjoyed playing pinochle and online poker.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil E. Walker of Merlin; four children, Virgilene “Suzi” Berry of Merlin, Oregon, Michael J. Walker of Merlin, Oregon, Vicki L. Buck of Grants Pass, Oregon and Pat L. Holmbeck of Medford, Oregon; a brother, Edward Lumpkin; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Lester, Johnny and Jimmy; grandchildren, Jamie & Jeremy Buck; and a great-granddaughter, Myah Eden Elwood.
