Former Grants Pass resident, Maxine Martin Simonsen, age 92, of Portland, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Calaroga Terrace Retirement Community in Portland.
No services are planned. Private interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Maxine was born November 17, 1916 in Grants Pass. She graduated in 1935 from Grants Pass High School, then attended University of Oregon. On July 11, 1936 in Portland she married Earl Simonsen. They returned to Grants Pass in 1949. From 1954 to 1978 she worked for Golden Rule. In 2000, together with her husband, she returned to Portland to be closer to her family.
She loved the people at Calaroga Terrace Retirement Community in Portland.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Grants Pass Golf Club for many years.
She was an avid reader and also enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and other crafts. She was a Grants Pass High School sports fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Dolbeer of Portland; a son, Steve Simonsen (Roni) of Gresham; a brother, Wally Martin of Grants Pass; a granddaughter, Beth Janssen Zilbert (Todd) of Portland and three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
