Maxine Amber Monnet, age 88, of Grants Pass, died December 30, 2019 at her home.
Maxine was born December 19, 1931 in Bellingham, Washington to Melvin & Nanna (Otteson) Sires. She attended a little country school and in 1950 graduated from Meridian High School in Bellingham, Washington where she was Drill Team Captain and Homecoming Princess. At the age of 16 she met Gerald Duane Monnet at the Pioneer Picnic Dance and they were married April 20, 1951 at the age of 18 in Bellingham. Together they had three children, Greg and Renee born in Bellingham. The family moved to Grants Pass in 1959 and Robyn was born 2 years later. Over the years, Maxine worked in various places in Grants Pass including nine years at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors; Glen Litwiller Chiropractic; Smithson Jewelers; Van Olpton Shoes; Griffiths Department Store; and Lincoln Elementary as a Title 1 Educational Assistant. Maxine recruited her husband Jerry to work at Hull & Hull and while he attended school, Maxine supported him and Jerry continued to work at the funeral home for 32 years.
Maxine attended First Assembly of God Church, Applegate Christian Fellowship and for the last 15 years Edgewater Christian Fellowship. Together with her husband she square danced with Christian Cross Trailers at the fairgrounds and also round danced with Rainbow Rounds.
Maxine loved shopping and fashion. She supported her children and grandchildren in all that they did. She was also active in church activities.
She is lovingly survived by her husband Jerry Monnet; children Renee (Terry) Rathbone; Greg (the late JoAnne) Monnet; and Robyn (Chris) Clark all of Grants Pass, Oregon; grandchildren Jerad Friend, Jeremy Friend, Aaron Friend, Austin Monnet, Cali Clark Foster (Isaac), Madi Clark, Evyn Clark, and Cash Clark; great-grandchildren Avery Friend, Lailee Friend, Aiden Friend, Brynna Friend, Conner Friend, Trevor Friend, Isabella Bales, Ryanne Hawkins, Jacob Friend, and Joseph Friend; sister Judy Weatherby and brother Don Sires both of Bellingham, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother Frank Sires and brother Paul Sires.
A viewing will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., January 10, 2020 and from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., January 11, 2020 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., January 11, 2020 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastors Glen Litwiller and Mark Skudstad officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
