Max Howard Hull

Max Howard Hull, age 71, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his home.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2014 at Parkway Christian Center with Pastor Matt Heverly officiating. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Max was born December 8, 1942 in Lebanon, Oregon. In 1955 he moved from the Bandon/Coquille area to Grants Pass. He played football for Mel Ingram at Grants Pass High School, graduating in 1961. He received a football scholarship for OIT and graduated with a Bachelors degree in March 1965. On June 29, 1963 Max married Mary Elizabeth Armstrong and they celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. In 1969 he became a Professional Land Surveyor. He purchased Claude Masters survey business in 1972 which he operated until his retirement in November 2013. During his tenure as a surveyor, Max filed 216 subdivisions and 2,994 survey and partitions in Josephine County alone. Max was also a property developer and owner of real estate – residential, shopping center and commercial properties.

Max attended Applegate Christian Fellowship for ten years and Edgewater Christian Fellowship for eight years and served as an elder at both. He led a men’s Bible study and prayer group up until his death. He was chairman of the board at Youth for Christ for several years in the 90s and was president of the GPHS Booster Club for three years in the 80s. His other memberships included the Professional Land Surveyor of Oregon Rogue River Chapter; Oregon Republican Party; and Grants Pass Golf Club.

His many hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, horses, whitewater rafting, camping, taking his grandchildren on tractor rides, reading American history books and loved spending time in the outdoors.

Max is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hull of Grants Pass, Oregon; three sons, Brad Martin of Diana, Texas, Daniel Hull and William Hull both of Grants Pass, Oregon; a brother, Eddie Lee Hull of Bandon, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Kitchen; and two brothers, Ronnie Messenger and Harry Messenger.
