Marvin Staten born January 21st 1933 Passed December 15th 2017
Marvin passed quietly at home, with wife Rene and grandson Drake. He was on hospice, due to the effects of dementia.
Marvin was born in Webber Oklahoma to Claude and Mary Belle Staten. He was the oldest of 12 children, Cal, Betty, Bill, Jay, John, Dan, Melvin, Claudia, Mary Anne, Angie, and Al. He came to Grants Pass at age 16, and fell in love with this State. He joined the Navy right out of high school. He had a long and decorated career. Seeing both the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired June 1, 1984. Spending 30 years active and inactive in our United States Military.
Marvin fathered 5 children in his first marriage, Michael Eugene, Brenda Marlene, Audrey Jean, Mark Eldon, and Marvin Everett. His second marriage gave him 4 boys that he adopted, Mark M., Coy R., Heath J. and Travis W.
Marvin traveled all over the world. He traveled to many U.S. states. He always knew he wanted to retire to Grants Pass. He had purchased property in the 1950’s and to him it was always home base.
His most cherished achievement was the 30 years of sobriety that he celebrated September 1st 2017. Marvin loved God and people. He was a storyteller and never met a stranger. He loved shopping the local thrift stores and Bi-mart and going to AA meetings and the fellowship and friendships that brought to him.
His third wife brought him 3 adult step-children, Heidi, Brandon and Billie. With 12 children total he had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin loved being at home, puttering in his shop or sitting with his animals. He said he had “traveled enough, and now he was in God’s Country.”
Marvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a foundation that stayed with him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Eldon; daughter, Audrey Jean; brother, Bill; and parents, Claude and Mary Belle.
A family graveside ceremony was held to say goodbye.
