Marvin Meredith Thompson, age 87, of Murphy, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at his home.
No services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Remembrances may be made to a local volunteer fire department or a local animal shelter.
Marvin was born May 10, 1921 and raised on a farm in North Dakota, a son of Norwegian parents. He left home at a young age and moved to Richmond, California where he worked at the shipyards and continued his education. While in Richmond, he learned welding and later worked for Idaco Engineering and Equipment in Oakland, California. In 1944 in Richmond he married Audra Lokey and she preceded him in death in 1957. He later married Frances Sikes-Leach, formally of Asheville, North Carolina who preceded him in death in 2007. After his retirement, he moved to Murphy over 20 years ago and opened his own home based business, “Industry Automation”. Several years ago he sold his business and again enjoyed retirement.
He was a member of The Humane Society of the United States.
His hobbies included gardening and canning his homegrown produce, restoring and remodeling homes, watching the wild animals from his chair in the den, and watching television.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Lucas of Belton, Texas; three sisters, Viola Antoine of Oakes, North Dakota, Dolores Gyldenvand of Wyndmere, North Dakota and Barbara Pugh of Portland; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his two wives; parents, Robert C. Thompson and Sara Ann (Pugh) Thompson; two brothers, Dale and Keith Thompson.
