Mark Axtell, age 92, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born Mark Darrell Axtell on December 19, 1916 in Everett, Washington to Glenn & Chloris Axtell. He was a graduate of Grants Pass High School, Class of 1935. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the United States Army Air Corp. While stationed in Witchitau Falls, Texas he worked as an airplane mechanic at Shepherd Air Base. On February 14, 1943 in Sadler, Texas, he married Emma Von Siebert. Before the war worked for Dale Prow Shop and a service station. He loved working and owned and operated Mark Axtell Trucking and Excavating. He retired in 1976.
He volunteered for the Scouts and was PTA President in the 1960’s at Fruitdale School. He donated his steam shovel to Riverside Park where it is still being used in the playground.
He was a member of the Josephine County Planning Commission during the 70’s and 80’s, attended First Baptist Church since 1964 and also attended Dayspring Church and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Von “Sug” Axtell of Grants Pass; two sons, Darrell Dean Axtell, and wife Maureen of Olympia, Washington, John Mark Axtell of Chadron, Nebraska; a daughter, Mary Evon Fash and her husband, Roy of Highland Heights, Ohio and four grandchildren.
