Marion Rose Dobson-Hughes
June 2, 1943 – February 11, 2025
Marion went home to our Lord at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center on February 11, 2025 as the result of an automobile accident earlier that day. She has been reunited with her beloved husband Gene Hughes. Marion and Gene ran an offset printing business in California for 16 years prior to moving to Rogue River Oregon. For the next 5 years Marion could be found working at the local Rays Food Place.
After Gene passed away in 2004 Marion’s neighbor, Toni McCollum the auxiliary president at the time, recruited Marion into the Auxiliary to help Marion stay busy and make new friends. Little did they know how busy Marion would be, and how many friends this would generate. Marion volunteered with the Pillow Talk group and in the Gift Shop, becoming the Service Chairperson for the gift shop in 2008 and for pillow talk in 2015. During the time Marion was in Pillow Talk, that group produced 172,400 pillows. Marion was awarded a Lifetime Membership in 2010 and has 16,800 “recorded” hours of volunteer service. We all know she contributed an untold number of hours over her 21 years of service. She received several “Kudos” for her “general goodness” while working in the Gift Shop.
Around 2005 Marion decided to add volunteering for Lovejoy Hospice. They loved Marion so much they employed her for a few years.
During Covid the hospital volunteering came to a standstill. As Covid calmed down, St. Vincent de Paul started their mobile kitchen up again. Marion was happily busy again serving others for a few years.
Marion was involved with the One Step Up grief group and The Red Hat Society. She also volunteered as a Greeter and worked with childcare at her River Valley Church, as well as being involved with the River Valley Life Group Bible Study.
Now we are all struggling to figure out what we will do without her smiles, phone calls, friendship and life of service. Marion is survived by the many, many friends she met through her church, and volunteering, as well as her precious kitties. She will always have a place in our hearts, and we are better people for having her cross our path.
Marion’s memorial service will be at River Valley Church – Downtown Campus on Saturday March 22nd at 10 AM.
